Health workers have been warned to ensure proper planning for active duty in order not to live in poverty in retirement.
Mr. Franklin Owusu Ansah, Head of Policy and Research Health Workers' Union Services (HSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) gave the council a presentation at a symposium in Sunyani.
The symposium under the theme: "Social Protection, the backbone of the quality of life before and during retirement," was organized by the branch of Brong-Ahafo Regional HSWU as part of the celebration of 46 anniversary of theMother Union.
The theme is "International Labour Organization (ILO) on social protection", with particular reference to the application of No. 102 Social Security and No. 158 concerning Termination of employment at the initiative of the employment.
Other speakers included Ms. Adwoa Abebrese, Regional Director, and Mr. Eugene Boakye, Public Relations Officer, Office of Brong-Ahafo Regional Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Mr Ansah was emphasized that effective preparation for retirement should be an essential task for any worker to avoid failures in retirement and suggested that these preparations must begin at least 10 years before retirement.
There can be no meaningful quality of life of a worker with no social protection, therefore, the laws of the ILO have written in their agreements on labor issues, employer, Mr. Ansah added.
Mr Ansah explained in detail a series of labor laws or the laws established to protect unionized workers in the country, saying that management was doing everything possible HSWU to intervene on behalf of workers in all sectorsunionized.
He said that the leadership of the Union's mother does not return to workers who meet to play a complementary role in this regard to the national secretariat, in collaboration with the regional office of the Union, ideally for the good workworkers in general.
Workers informed about the efforts of his team to ensure that health workers would be transferred to the structure of the single salary spine (SSSS) and assured that the final implementation of the policy would attract a refund of January 2010, the date of official.
